Free spreadsheet templates for tracking materials, products, and costs
Downloaded a free inventory spreadsheet from our website and it hasn't shown up? Here's where these templates come from, how delivery works, and what to do if yours has gone missing.
Stocksmith publishes a range of free downloadable inventory and costing spreadsheets on our website, separate from anything inside your Stocksmith account. This article covers what they are, how you get one, and how they differ from the reports and exports Stocksmith itself can generate.

What are the free inventory spreadsheets?
These are free, downloadable spreadsheet templates published on our website, at stocksmith.io/resources. They're not a feature inside Stocksmith itself, and you don't need a Stocksmith account to get one. They're aimed at anyone who wants a simple starting point for tracking materials, products, purchases, and manufactures by hand.
There's a general Raw Material Inventory Spreadsheet and an Inventory and COGS Spreadsheet, plus versions built for specific trades, including bakeries, candle makers, soap makers, jewellers, cosmetics, apparel, fabric, and coffee roasters. Each is a multi-tabbed spreadsheet file that opens in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets, with a guide covering how to use it.
See the full, current list of free spreadsheets and calculators on our resources page.
Getting a spreadsheet
Each spreadsheet has its own page on our website. Entering your email address on that page is what sends you the spreadsheet, there's no direct download button.
-
Go to a spreadsheet's page. Use the resources page, or a direct link if someone shared one with you.
-
Enter your email address in the sign-up box and submit it.
-
Check your inbox. You'll receive an email with a link to download the spreadsheet as a zip file. Unzip it to open the spreadsheet in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.
Signing up for a spreadsheet also adds you to our mailing list for related tips, typically two to four emails a month. You can unsubscribe any time from the link at the bottom of any of those emails.
If your spreadsheet hasn't arrived
The email is sent automatically as soon as you submit the form. If it hasn't turned up, work through these in order:
-
Check spam, junk, and promotions folders. First-time emails from a new sender are often filtered here, especially in Gmail's Promotions tab.
-
Confirm your email address. Check the address you entered was typed correctly, and that it's an inbox you have access to.
-
Get in touch. If it's still not there, contact us with the email address you used and which spreadsheet you requested, and we'll check what happened and resend it.
Free spreadsheets vs your Stocksmith exports
These downloadable templates are separate from the reports and exports you can generate from inside your Stocksmith account. If you're already using Stocksmith, you don't need one of these spreadsheets to work with your data. Stocksmith can export it directly:
- About the Product Inventory Worksheet report: a spreadsheet-style export of your product inventory
- About the Material Inventory Worksheet report: the same report, for your materials
- Working with CSV exports in a spreadsheet: opening any Stocksmith export in Excel or Google Sheets
And if you want to bring your own spreadsheet data into Stocksmith, that's an import, not a download. See Importing materials.
FAQ
Do I need a Stocksmith account to get a free spreadsheet?
No. The free spreadsheets are available to anyone. All you need to provide is an email address.
Why do I need to give my email address to download a template?
The spreadsheets are delivered by email rather than as a direct download, so we need an address to send it to. Signing up also adds you to our mailing list for occasional related tips, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.
Can I use the spreadsheet in Google Sheets, not just Excel?
Yes. Each spreadsheet is a standard multi-tabbed file that opens in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.
