Do you have an API available?

Yes, Stocksmith has a read-only API

Tired of exporting CSVs just to get your data into another tool? The Stocksmith API lets you pull your materials, products, and production data directly, so your other systems always have the latest numbers.

The API is read-only for now: you can pull data out of Stocksmith, but you can't create or update records through it. It's built for connecting your own tools, scripts, or reporting dashboards to your Stocksmith data.

The public API is in closed beta and is not yet available on all accounts.

In this article:

Getting an API key

Go to Settings > API Keys to create a key. Only the account's primary user can create or revoke keys, and each key is shown once at creation, so copy it somewhere safe straightaway. You can have up to five active keys at a time.

For the full step-by-step, see Using the Stocksmith API.

What you can pull

The API gives you read access to materials, products, components, recipes, manufactures, purchases, and basic account details. Creating or updating records through the API isn't supported yet.

See the full list of endpoints, filters, and example responses in Using the Stocksmith API.

Authentication and rate limits

Include your API key as a Bearer token in the Authorization header of every request. Responses are JSON, list endpoints are paginated (25 per page by default, up to 100), and each key can make up to 1,000 requests per minute.

For request examples and error handling, see Using the Stocksmith API.

FAQ

Can I write data through the API?

Not yet. The current API is read-only: you can pull data out of Stocksmith, but writing data back in isn't supported.

Can I connect Stocksmith to Claude or another AI assistant?

Yes. Stocksmith also runs an MCP server (a standard that lets AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT connect to other apps) at mcp.stocksmith.io, with the same read-only access as the API above. Only the account's primary user can connect an AI assistant, and like the rest of the public API, it's part of the current closed beta. See Using the Stocksmith API for how to connect one.

Is the API included in my plan?

The API is in closed beta at the moment, so it isn't switched on for every account yet. We haven't finalised which plans it will be included in when it opens up more widely. If it would help your business, get in touch and we'll let you know where things are up to.

What happens if I lose my API key?

Revoke it from Settings > API Keys and create a new one. Keys are only ever shown once, so Stocksmith can't display a lost key again.

How many API keys can I create?

Up to five active keys per user. Revoking a key frees up a slot for a new one.

Is there a Stocksmith app for iPhone or Android?

No, there isn't a separate Stocksmith app in the App Store or Google Play. You can still open Stocksmith in your phone's web browser, but it's built for the extra screen space of a tablet or computer. For the best experience, especially for tasks like building recipes or reviewing reports, we'd recommend using a tablet or desktop.
