Enter manufacture information for a recipe
In a recipe, you can provide manufacture information to get a clear picture of the cost and time it takes to create a batch of your product.
You can set:
- Manufacture batch quantity: minimum number of products you can create with your recipe
- Estimated batch manufacture time: number of minutes it takes to create a batch of your product
Enter a manufacture batch quantity
To enter a manufacture batch quantity for a recipe:
- Click and choose a recipe from your recipe list.
- Click Edit to make changes to the recipe.
- Enter the number of products you can create and sell in the Manufacture Batch Quantity field.
- Click Save Recipe.
Selling one product in multiple sizes as variations
If you sell one product in several sizes as variations, each with its own recipe, keep the Manufacture Batch Quantity at 1 on every variation's recipe. Only change the ingredient quantities to match each size.
Manufacture Batch Quantity means how many units come out of one manufacturing run. If you fill units to order rather than running a fixed batch size, that number is 1, regardless of how big or small the unit is.
For example, if you sell candles in 2 oz, 4 oz, and 8 oz sizes as three variations, each variation's recipe should have a Manufacture Batch Quantity of 1. Only the wax, wick, and fragrance quantities in each recipe should change to match the size.
The Manufacture Batch Quantity field locks and becomes read-only once you've logged a manufacture against that recipe. Get it right before your first manufacture for each variation.
Setting Manufacture Batch Quantity to anything other than 1 on differently sized variations changes your stock projections. See About production potential to understand why.
Enter an estimated batch manufacture time
To enter an estimated batch manufacture time for a recipe:
- Click and choose a recipe from your recipe list.
- Click Edit to make changes to the recipe.
- Enter the number of minutes it takes to create a batch of your product in the Batch Manufacture Time (Estimated) field.
- Click Save Recipe.
The estimated batch manufacture time is the default value when you add a manufacture. If it took more or less time to create a batch of your product, you can enter the total labor time in the manufacture details.
